Our AGM have become places where good governance goes to die… There are a number of reasons for this. I will talk through some thoughts about how we can make iwi governance more relevant for our whanau, and how to ensure an AGM is an Annual General Meeting and not ‘Another Great Mess’….

Rawiri (Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Toarangatira, Ngāti Whakaue) is Chair of Te Wai Māori Trust and holds the role of Pou Toa Matarau at Te Runanga o Toa Rangatira. Rawiri has expertise in environmental governance and also a wealth of knowledge in the interface between central/local government and iwi Māori. In his current role he is responsible for ensuring the cultural, environmental and reo aspirations of the iwi are enabled through strong strategic partnerships. Rawiri has served in governance roles across crown entities, volunteer and local government sectors.
